Life is not a straight line. It is a journey with its ups and downs. Life has its highs and lows. Sometimes the highs are very high and the lows extremely low. So then, how do we stay positive and hopeful in challenging times? There are days that we can’t explain what is happening in our lives. We are faced with situations that strip us of all joy and happiness. How then do you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times?

We are often faced with one challenge after another. Loss of a loved one, loss of job, sickness, breakups, separation and, loss of an income, failure in one area of our lives, unrealized dreams and expectations. There are those days when we feel like everything and everyone is against us. How can one stay positive and hopeful in challenging times, those times that you feel like the world is out to rip you out of everything that you have?

In the world we are living today, it has become a challenge for people to manage their stress. Mental health disease is on the rise. People no longer know how to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. The pressure to be achievers and become like everything else and better has led to people wasting away on depression and mental health issues.

I am not a pro on how to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. I have had those moments in my life when I feel like everything is falling apart. Days like I feel my life is stuck and not moving forward. With time I have learned to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. I am learning to become positive and hopeful during unanswered prayers and delayed prayers.

The important thing to understand in life is that you are not the only one going through a difficult situation. Some may be having it worse than you, but never invalidate your pain, frustrations, and disappointment. Sometimes, all you have is yourself is to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. Being an introvert, I only have one person to share my life with, my mom.  I can’t burden my mom with all of my problems, fears, and challenges all the time, so I have had to come with ways on how to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times.

For anyone who might be in a slack, feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and wondering if things will ever go well. Here are some of the tips I use to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times.

  • Be grateful.

Gratitude is key to happiness. Most of our stress, worry, and anxiety can be managed if we practice gratitude in our lives. Being grateful means that you are fully living in the moment. You don’t have to have all your big dreams realized and your prayers answered, to be grateful.

Be grateful for the smallest details in your life. Be grateful for the gift of life. Start your morning with gratitude. Thank the universe that has given you another day to fight your battles, to dream again, to make things right, to correct your mistakes. Thank God every morning that He has given you another day to experience His unending love.  Another day to make things better. Another day to experience happiness and find joy.

Gratitude is the easiest way to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. There is always something to be grateful for. Be grateful for the things you have, for the things that are happening, and for the things that will happen in your life. It shows faith and helps you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times.

  • Maintain a positive mindset.

Your attitude and mindset are everything that controls your life. Keep off a negative mindset, a defeated mindset, and a limited mindset to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. Have a champion’s mindset. Champions do not see themselves drowning in the problem, they see themselves winning over the problems. They love challenges because they believe that challenges are there to make them grow, strengthen them and push them to new limits.

No matter what you are going through in life, do not allow negativity in. feed your mind with positive thoughts and emotions. Develop the right attitude, an attitude that will bring you peace and that will help you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times.

  • Read the word.

What religion do you believe in? I believe every religion has a book associated with it. A sacred book that helps them understand who they are and what they believe in. I am a Christian. I believe in the Bible. It is the source of my identity and my belief. It is the book upon which I derive my principles, values, and the pillar upon which I lay my life.

The bible gives me an understanding of the promises of God. I can stay positive and hopeful in challenging times because by reading the Bible I am reminded about God’s promises upon my life. Reading through God’s word as he speaks to me, understanding the people he used for his purpose calms my mind. It reminds me that my situation is not permanent, thus I can stay positive and hopeful in challenging times.

  • Look out for inspiring content.

What you feed your mind will play a big and major role in helping you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. Look out for motivational videos, podcasts and follow social media pages that are inspiring. Cut out the consumption of anything that will take you down further the drain, unfollow pages that don’t inspire you or add value to your life.

  • Connect and share with people who truly love and care for you.

I have gone through depression two times in my life. The first time it was critical and suicidal. I didn’t t talk to anyone. I never shared what I was going through with anyone, not even my mom who I am very close to. Eventually, I was able to pull out, myself from it. Fighting depression in your life doesn’t mean it will not come back again.

The second time, it attacked me, I was able to recognize it before it did much damage. One of the ways I was able to sail through the storm, is that I was open about what I was going through. I talked to my family and became honest with my feelings. I shared my feelings with my closest friends. Remember you are not supposed to share with just anyone. Be selective with who you chose to share your struggles with. Not everyone will sympathize with what you are going through, some are happy because you are going through it.

Connect with people who make you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times. People who will wholeheartedly walk the journey with you. People who will pray with you, and make an effort to help you with the exact problem you are going through.

How else do you stay positive and hopeful in challenging times? It is challenging to stay positive and hopeful in challenging times, this I know for sure, but the good thing is that you can.
