What are self-love examples?
Self-love is a familiar term to almost all of us. Over and over again we are reminded to love ourselves. However, most people don’t have an understanding of self-love examples. What are some of the self-love examples? Self-love is a journey. It is a lifetime process that we have to practice over and over again. I give self-love examples, in form of stages that we must all take at the beginning of our self-love journey. There are many self-love examples, and people give different meanings to self-love examples.
Self-love examples are not selfish, nor toxic, nor selfish. Self-love examples are wholesome and healthy. We do not exercise self-love examples by walking on others or hurting them. Practicing self-love examples is a way of creating healthy boundaries around us, which helps us establish healthy relationships.
Self-love means different things to different people. In the modern-day, when you mention self-love, most people have a narrow definition of what it is. People talk about common things. The internet has introduced some self-love examples, which are good, but in reality since they are just acts of self-kindness.
Women have defined self-love as just taking care of your body, embracing your body, and standing out. Female influencers have promoted that self-love examples are about masking, laying in a bathtub, taking care of your skin, and buying the trending fashion styles. I have nothing against them, as they are also a way of practicing self-love.
If we limit self-love examples to the above things, then where are the men? Does it mean that men are not supposed to practice self-love? Self-love is a concept with deeper meaning than what people talk about on the surface. Everybody ought to practice self-love regardless of their age, gender, religion, sexuality, or where they come from.
In this article ill share self-love examples. I think they are the stages that lay the foundation of a self-love journey and showing kindness to ourselves.
- self- awareness
Becoming self-aware is one of the self-love examples and the first step towards self-love. Self-awareness comes from studying who you are. Most of us are ready to study anything else other than ourselves. We must identify ourselves first if we want to practice self-love. You can love what or who you don’t know.
Know where you come from, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what are your values and beliefs. Why do you do what you do? What are your thinking patterns? What makes you happy and what takes away your peace and joy? What do you want to achieve in life? What do you consider as right or wrong?
These are just a few of the questions that you should ask yourself to figure out who you are. Self-awareness comes from moments of silence, reflection, and meditation. Being honest with yourself is key to self-love. Remember you can lie to everyone else but yourself.
The second self-love example is acceptance. Self-acceptance comes from self-awareness. After you study yourself, you have to accept the results. Most people spend their lives running away from themselves and certain aspects of themselves.
We tend to cover up our pain, trauma, and insecurities rather than accept them. Remember the things that we are running away from are also running after us. Fully accept who you are, then you can begin to work on yourself.
After accepting yourself, the next self-love example is to work on yourself. Change what needs to be changed, improve what needs to be improved. Most of the time we may be carrying some toxic traits that hinder us from becoming our best version. Get rid of the toxicity and everything that interferes with your energy.
Exploit your strengths and turn your weaknesses into strengths. Read books that will impact your life. If you need to see a therapist, there is no shame in doing so. Whatever you need to do to grow and work on yourself, to become your best and greatest version, just do it.
One of the greatest self-love examples is self-care. You can’t love yourself if you do not take care of yourself. Self-care comes in form of the smallest things, to the grand things that you can do for yourself.
Self-care may be in form of taking care of yourself physically. Eating healthy, physical exercises, dressing well, taking a bath twice a day, having a skincare routine, and embracing your body confidence are just some of the simple self-care tips.
Once in a while, treat yourself to that expensive restaurant. Go shopping. Buy that dress, shoe, or bag, the makeup product you have been longing to buy.
Regardless of gender, there are simple ways you can show self-care. Take that trip you have always wished you could.
Self-care is not just about the outward things. The most important form of self-care as part of self-love examples is taking care of your mental health. Your mental health should be your priority. Your mental health comes before work, relationships, academics, or anything else for that matter. Take care of yourself emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It is one of the self-care examples.
- Creating boundaries.
This is one of the underrated yet most important forms of self-care examples. It will not do you any good if you implement all the other self-care examples and fail to create boundaries. Creating healthy boundaries helps protect our mental health and entire being. We all need boundaries in place around our family, friendships, relationships, work, and other integral areas of life. People who live their lives without defined boundaries are open for exploitation especially emotionally.
Learn when to say yes and when to say no. be kind and love others but not at your expense. Communicate your boundaries with the people around you. It will cost you some friendships and relationships, I have been there. At the end of the day your peace, joy, and happiness is the best gift you can give to the world.
There are other self-love examples. People perceive sell-love differently, depending on their life circumstances. Self-love is the greatest form of power that you can ever have. If you are single, read on how to express self love as a single person.
